Women's Tennis loses at 54th-ranked North Texas

DENTON, Texas – The Lamar women’s tennis team certainly gave a number of North Texas players all they could handle on Sunday afternoon, but ultimately the 54th-ranked Mean Green won out in 7-0 fashion. Both Natalia Mayagoitia and Dariya Dashutina battled out to a tie breaks. Mayagoitia came back from a 6-1 loss in the opening frame at No. 4 to take home the second in 7-6 fashion before falling 10-4. Dashutina earned the first set win over Agustina Valenzuela at the sixth spot, but ended up losing 7-5, 6-7 (8), 4-10. At No. 3, Carolina Masó dropped a tight 7-5 first set decision to Valentina Starkova, but lost 6-1 in the second. In other singles action, Carolina Salas lost 6-2, 6-3 to Kseniya Bardabush at the top spot, and Alicia Porte fell in 6-3, 6-2 fashion to Barbora Vykydalova at the second. Hélène Czudek lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 to Ilona Serchenko. In doubles, the team of Salas and Czudek dropped an 8-4 decision to Bardabush and Franziska Sprinkmeyer, and the duo of Porte and Masó fell 8-5 to Starkova and Vykydalova. The Lady Cardinals will now enjoy a bit of a break before returning to action on February 15 against Louisiana at Thompson Family Tennis Complex. #LUTennis
