LAS CRUCES, N.M. - Katya Lapayeva was dominant on Friday afternoon, but unfortunately for the Lamar women's tennis team, she wasn't enough as the Lady Cardinals fell to New Mexico State at the New Mexico State Tennis Center.

Lapayeva earned a second consecutive victory in impressive fashion, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Mia Brandt at No. 6 singles. The freshman out of Belarus has now won three consecutive sets without losing a game.

NMSU started things off by sweeping through doubles. The team of Denise van der Ben and Susana Alcaraz handed Carolina Masó and Alicia Porte an 8-6 decision. Anna Spengler and Lapayeva fell to Brittany Collens and Ros-Polly Nguyen 8-3, and Hanna Elfving and Dariya Dashutina lost by the same score to Ashyarya Shrivastava and Annemieke Witte.

In singles, Dashutina took home a 7-6 victory in the opening set at the top spot, but dropped the second 6-3 before bowing out in the third. Masó had close one as well, but came on the receiving end of a pair of 7-6 scores at line three, and Porte lost 6-2, 6-2 to Susana Alcaraz at No. 2.

In other singles action, Spengler dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Shrivastava, and Elfving lost 7-5, 6-3 to Witte.
