Lady Cards fall at McNeese

LAKE CHARLES – The Lamar women’s tennis team wrapped up its first conference road trip of the season on Sunday, falling 7-0 to McNeese State at Nancy Hank Tennis Center.

The match was pretty even in doubles, but ultimately the Cowgirls pulled away late, beginning with the duo of Julia Kral and Annabelle Peacock, which picked up an 8-5 victory over Anna Spengler and Katya Lapayeva at No. 3. McNeese kept it going at No. 2 as Anastasia Surkova and Vivien Borbely handed Dariya Dashutina and Hanna Elfving an 8-6 decision.

In singles, Klaudia Gawlik beat Dashutina 7-5, 7-6 at No. 1, and at the second spot, Sara Castellano handed Carolina Masó a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Julia Kral picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win on line three over Alicia Porte, and Elfving offered the biggest fight of the day at No. 4, falling 7-5, 6-7, 10-5 to Vivien Borbely. In other singles action, Surkova beat Lapayeva 6-3, 6-3, and Peacock handed Nadiya Kulibaba a 6-0, 6-2 loss.

With the loss, LU fell to 3-7 on the year and 1-3 in Southland play. McNeese improved to 8-4 and 3-0, respectively.

The Lady Cards will return to action on Saturday as Prairie View A&M will make the trek to Thompson Family Tennis Center.
