Lady Cards lose at Southeastern Louisiana
March 17, 2013
HAMMOND, La. – Natalia Mayagoitia was the sole Lady Cardinal to win on Sunday as the Lamar women’s tennis team fell 6-1 at Southeastern Louisiana.
Mayagoitia picked up her victory in dominating fashion, winning 6-1, 6-1 over Adriana Castillo in the No. 5 spot.
Unfortunately for the Lady Cards, the Lady Lions proved to be too much at the other positions. Carolina Salas lost 6-3, 6-1 to Nastya Tokareva at No. 1, and Carolina Masó was dispatched in 6-4, 6-2 fashion by Reginka Nychytailova at the second spot. Alessandra Pennesi fell 7-5, 6-3 to Renee Villarreal at line three, and Alicia Porte was handed a 6-1, 6-4 loss by Valya Rusakova at No. 4.
Isabel Brito rounded out the strong SLU performance with a 7-5, 6-3 decision over Hélène Czudek in the final spot.
In doubles, the duo of Masó and Porte picked up an 8-4 win on Court Two. Lamar very nearly clinched the doubles point, but it wasn’t to be as the teams of Czudek and Salas as well as Dariya Dashutina and Mayagoitia each fell in 9-8 fashion.
The Lady Cards will return to action on Thursday when they play host to McNeese State.
