Lamar Women's Tennis Bounces Back with 7-0 Win over Nicholls

BEAUMONT - Just 18 hours after a tough loss against Southeastern Louisiana, the Lamar University women's tennis team was back on the Cardinal Courts where they rolled past the Nicholls State Lady Colonels for a 7-0 win. The win improves the Lady Cardinals record to 18-2 on the year and 6-1 in Southland Conference play while Nicholls falls to 10-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play with the loss. Lamar claimed the doubles point to start the match as Andrea Martinez and Mariaryeni Gutierrez rolled past Florina Nosca and S. Kalyanasundra 8-0 while Gutierrez and Manijee Ashrafi defeated Anne-Claire Mullier and Sanja Stanojcic 8-2. The match at No. 3 doubles was won by LU by forfeit. In singles play Mariaryeni Gutierrez improved to 20-0 on the year with an easy 6-1, 6-1 victory over Nosca at No.1, Harbuzi took down Mullier 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2, Maria Gutierrez held on for a 6-3, 1-6, 10-4 win at No. 3 over Stanojcic and Salina Aranda posted a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Kalyanasundra at No. 4. The matches at No. 5 and No. 6 were claimed by Lamar via forfeit. The Lady Cards will be back in action on another strong SLC opponent in aNorthwestern State on Saturday, April 12 at 11 a.m. in Natchitoches, La.
