HUNTSVILLE - The Lamar women's tennis team continued its strong run in conference play on Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 win over Sam Houston State.
The Lady Cardinals got things going early by holding on for the doubles point. The team of Helene Czudek and Carolina Salas handed out an 8-4 decision at the top spot, and the duo of Carolina Maso and Alicia Porte won 8-4 as well at No. 2 to seal it.
At line three, Natalia Mayagoitia and Dariya Dashutina lost 8-6.
In singles, Salas got it rolling with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win over Tatyana Postnikova at No. 1, and Dashutina put the Cards a point away from clinching with a 6-1, 6-2 decision vs. Imke Jagau at line three.
With losses at spots two, four and five, it all came down to Mayagoitia at No. 6. The senior came through for the Lady Cards, picking up a 6-0, 4-6, 6-2 win against Nadia Dubyanskaya.
In the second spot, Maso fell 6-0, 6-3 to Sheridan Currie, and Porte lost 6-2, 6-4 at line four to Natalie Petaia.
Maddie Mortimore was the only other Bearkat to notch a victory, winning 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 over Alessandra Pennesi.
Lamar (9-7, 4-1 Southland) will look to keep its four-match winning streak alive on Sunday at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
