Lady Cards Tennis Downs Texas State 5-2

SAN MARCOS, Texas - Despite playing a player short, The Lamar University women's tennis team won four singles matches and also claimed the doubles point in positing a 5-2 win over Texas State in Southland Conference play Friday. The win improved LU's record to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in SLC play, while Texas State dropped to 10-6 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The decisive match was at No. 2 singles where Lamar's Maria Gutierrez came back from a first set loss to beat Texas State's Andrea Giraldo 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The Bobcats' Rabea Hartmann also lost a three-set match, as Manijee Ashrafi came back to win 4-6, 7-6, 10-7. The Lady Cardinals will be in action again on Saturday morning, when they take on Texas Arlington in Arlington at 9:00. Tennis Match Results Lamar University 5, Texas State 2 Singles competition
