CORPUS CHRISTI - The Lamar women's tennis season came to an end on Friday as the Lady Cardinals were unable to hold off regular season champion Northwestern State in a 4-0 loss at the Southland Conference Tournament.

The top-seeded Lady Demons (19-5, 11-1 Southland) proved too much for the young Lady Cards, running out to a quick doubles point and then winning in straight sets on three singles courts to bring the match to a close. With the loss, No. 8 seed LU finished the year 8-14 with a 5-7 league mark.

Natalya Krutova and Kateryna Piatakova got it started for NSU, handing Dariya Dashutina and Hanna Elfving an 8-1 defeat at No. 2 doubles, and the tandem of Aliona Ladutska and Daniela Simonova clinched it by beating Anna Spengler and Katya Lapayeva in 8-2 fashion at the third spot.

At line one, Polina Konop and Tatiana Larina led 6-4 over LU's Carolina Masó and Alicia Porte.

Piatakova was the first to finish in singles as well, handing Lapayeva, who led the Lady Cards in singles wins this season, a 6-3, 6-1 decision. Larina followed up with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Masó, and Krutova sealed the deal with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Spengler.

The Lady Demons also held one-set leads on the other singles courts when the match was halted.

The match was the last of the season for the Lady Cards, and they finished the year being led by the freshman trio of Lapayeva, Spengler and Elfving. The group combined for 26 of LU's 46 singles victories this spring.
