CORPUS CHRISTI - Alicia Porte  and Katya Lapayeva squared off in an all-Lamar consolation final on Sunday morning as the Lady Cardinal tennis team wrapped up play at the Marco & Co. Catering Islanders Open at Thomas J. Henry Center.

Porte, a senior out of France, beat her freshman Ukrainian counterpart in 6-4, 6-2 fashion.

"I thought all of the players played well this weekend," head coach David Wong said. "It was a good tournament for us, despite the weather situation. The freshmen did really well, and they implemented the strategies that we've worked on. We're on the right track."

In the main draw, Dariya Dashutina saw her run come to an end in the semifinals with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Maider Martin, who went on to play teammate Stefania Nicolae for the event's championship.

The Lady Cards will return to the courts in two weeks at the Louisiana Invitational in Lafayette.
