FORT WORTH – Carolina Masó picked up a win on Thursday as the Lamar women’s tennis team completed the first day of play at the ITA Texas Regional at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis complex on the campus of TCU.
Masó started the day with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Sam Houston State’s Bella Costa in the round of 128, but second-seeded Christina Stancu of Texas A&M ended the Mexico native’s hope for a run with a 6-0, 6-0 decision in the round of 64.
Hanna Elfving was the only other Lady Cardinal to compete on the day, falling to UT Arlington’s Elizabeth Thoms in 6-1, 6-3 fashion. Elfving is slated to face Andi Botha of Incarnate Word in the consolation bracket on Friday.
Elfving and Masó combined in doubles, but fell 8-5 to Solo Zinko and Jane Stewart of Rice in the tournament’s opening round.
