Doubles teams shine at ITA Regionals
Oct. 20, 2012
WACO, Texas - The duo of Carolina Maso and Alicia Porte secured a berth into the round of 16 to highlight the second day of play for the Lamar women's tennis team at the ITA Regionals at Hurd Tennis Center on the campus of Baylor. "We were much better today," head coach David Wong said. "I think we're starting to play better doubles. Winning in doubles is all about placement and execution. We're learning how to get the right shots into place now." Maso and Porte earned their spot by way of beating the Rice team of Daniela Trigo and Stephanie Nguyen in 8-6 fashion. Helene Czudek and Carolina Salas rebounded from an 8-1 loss to Rice's Kimberly Anicete and Solomiya Zinko to pick up a tight 9-7 decision over Melissa Hadad and Jessica Kahts of Texas State. In singles play, Porte bowed out from the singles consolation bracket with a 6-2, 6-3 loss to Kseniya Bardabush of North Texas. Play at the ITA Texas Regional will continue on Sunday. #LUTennis
