HOUSTON, Texas - The Lamar women's tennis team capped the 2012 fall season with a strong showing on Sunday, going 5-0 to close out play at the Tennis Express Houston Open at John E. Hoff Courts. Dariya Dashutina had the standout performance of the day, picking up a pair of victories en route to winning the consolation draw of the Kenny Rogers flight. The junior posted a 6-1, 6-2 win over Liberty's Cameron Richard in the semis before posting another decisive victory, this time in 6-2, 6-2 fashion, over Katy Collins of Texas State. Alicia Porte also impressed, grabbing third place in the Tom Landry bracket with a 6-0, 7-5 decision over Liberty's Valerie Thong. In other singles action, Alessandra Pennesi won 6-1, 6-1 over Houston's Jo Garvey, and Natalia Mayagoitia battled to a 6-7, 6-4, 10-8 win against Annisha Domenech of Liberty. Play in both Lady Cardinals' respective brackets was called off due to time constraints. The event marked the final tournament of the fall for Lamar, and the Lady Cards will return to action next semester. #LUTennis
