BEAUMONT - It has been 705 days since the Lamar women's tennis team last lost a match at Thompson Family Tennis Center, but the Lady Cardinals will have a task in front of them to keep that streak going as they are scheduled to open the home slate on Saturday against Louisiana Tech.

The Lady Techsters enter the encounter on a streak of their own, having won four straight, including three on the road, beating Florida Atlantic, Central Arkansas and New Orleans. Most recently, they handed Grambling a 6-0 decision.

LU is 2-3 this season after bookending a 4-3 victory over Northern Arizona with losses to New Mexico State and UTEP.

Last season, the Cards posted a 7-1 mark at home with the only loss coming in the Southland Tournament at the Beaumont Municipal Tennis Complex.

Head coach David Wong has largely depended on veterans in the top half of his lineup, beginning with senior Dariya Dashutina and Alicia Porte. The duo has combined for three singles victories this season, and junior Carolina Masó has added another.

The rest of the team is made up of freshmen, beginning with Belarus import Katya Lapayeva, who leads the team with a 3-2 record. German Anna Spengler is 2-2 on the year, and Nadiya Kulibaba has chipped in another.

First serve on Saturday is set for 2 p.m.
