BEAUMONT – After seeing a long winning streak at Thompson Family Tennis Center get snapped last month, the Lamar women’s tennis team will be looking to get back to its winning ways at the campus facility with matches this weekend against new Southland foe New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana.
The Lady Cardinals, which enter the match with a 2-4 record this season, will be looking to turn things around in conference season much like they did in 2013. Last year, LU went 4-6 in non-conference play before coming back to post a 5-2 league record.
Seniors Alicia Porte and Dariya Dashutina have been charged with the top two spots in the lineup this season. Both have picked wins at No. 1 this season, and junior Carolina Masó rounds out the upperclassmen with a win at No. 3.
The bottom half of the lineup will likely feature a trio of freshmen, beginning with Katya Lapayeva at No. 6. The Belarus native leads all Lady Cards with four victories this year, and German import Anna Spengler also has a pair.
The other LU representative is likely to be either Hanna Elfving or Nadiya Kulibaba.
First serve on Saturday is scheduled for 11 a.m. vs. UNO, and the Lady Cards will take on SLU on Sunday at noon.
