BEAUMONT – With five straight victories at Thompson Family Tennis Center dating back to last season, the Lamar women’s tennis team will look to keep the streak going on Sunday as the Lady Cardinals will open conference play against McNeese State before playing host to a non-conference tilt with Prairie View A&M.

This season, Lamar is 2-0 at home, posting a pair of impressive 6-1 decisions over Louisiana and Arkansas State. Overall, the Lady Cards hold a 4-4 record.

Lamar has done most of the damage in the middle and bottom of the line-up as Alessandra Pennesi carries a 4-0 record on the year playing from positions 4-6. Natalia Mayagoitia enters on a three-match streak of her own, and both Carolina Maso and Dariya Dashutina have won two consecutive matches.

With the McNeese match marking the first conference meeting of the year, the Lady Cards will be looking to continue its strong run in Southland openers. LU has won six of the previous seven, only dropping a 5-2 decision to former SLC member Texas State last season.

Overall, LU carries an 8-5 record against McNeese since head coach David Wong took control of the program in 2001, and the Lady Cards have won each of the previous eight. The Cowgirls are 8-4 this season and coming off a 1-1 showing last week with a win over UMKC and a loss to Louisiana.

The Lady Cards are 9-0 against Prairie View under Wong and have not dropped a point to the Panthers since the 2009 season. PVAMU is 3-5 this season.

Sunday’s match against McNeese is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start. The Lady Cards and Prairie View are slated to square off at 3 p.m.
