BEAUMONT – After getting back on track on Saturday with a win over Prairie View A&M, the Lamar women’s tennis team will look to build off of it with a match vs. UAB at Thompson Family Tennis Center on Wednesday.
The Lady Cards (4-7) are looking to secure back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they prepare to continue their Southland Conference slate vs. Central Arkansas this weekend.
It was a dominant display this past Saturday, especially from the LU freshman contingent as all three singles players won by scores of 6-0, 6-1 vs. their Prairie View counterparts. Katya Lapayeva added to her team-best win total of seven, awhile both Hanna Elfving and Nadiya Kulibaba earned their second victories of the year.
Dariya Dashutina earned a fourth win, beating the Panthers’ Taylor LeFridge, who was fresh off a No. 1 singles win over No. 39 Arkansas. Fellow senior Alicia Porte was dominant in route to her third victory of the season, and Carolina Masó doubled her win total with a three-set decision.
UAB is 7-10 this season and is coming off a 7-0 defeat at Houston on Monday. This past weekend, the Blazers picked up a 4-0 decision over Arkansas State and then fell 4-3 at Southern Miss.
First serve on Wednesday at Thompson Family Tennis Center is scheduled for 9 a.m.
