Women's Tennis set to host conference matches vs. Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts

March 28, 2013

BEAUMONT – With five straight wins at home, the Lamar women’s tennis team will look to keep it going this weekend as conference foes Central Arkansas and Oral Roberts make the trek to Beaumont.

The Lady Cardinals will play host to UCA on Friday and ORU on Saturday. Both matches will be held at Beaumont Municipal Tennis Center due to ongoing renovations at Thompson Family Tennis Center on campus.

Lamar (6-7, 2-1 Southland), will be looking to keep up its pristine record vs. UCA. The Sugar Bears have dropped all six matches that they’ve played in the series, including a 6-1 loss in Conway last season. Carolina Salas, Alicia Porte, Natalia Mayagoitia, Alessandra Pennesi and Helene Czudek all shined in the meeting as each won in straight sets.

The Lady Cards also swept through doubles.

This season, the Sugar Bears are 6-11 with an 0-4 mark in conference play.

On Saturday, ORU and LU will have their inaugural conference meeting. Oral Roberts is 2-7 this season with a 1-3 mark in the SLC. The two sides have met twice previously with the Golden Eagles winning 5-4 in 1995 and Lamar taking home a dominating 7-0 win in 2007.

Friday’s match is set to begin at 10 a.m., and Saturday’s will start at 11 a.m.
