BEAUMONT – After splitting a pair of conference matches over the weekend, the Lamar women’s tennis team will look to continue improving on Thursday as the Lady Cardinals will play host to Southland foe Sam Houston State.
Katya Lapayeva has been the most consistent performer for the team this season, posting a team-best 10-6 record in singles, and her doubles partner, fellow freshman Anna Spengler, has also been successful at times, racking up five victories, which is good enough for third on the team. In doubles, the duo has three wins as well.
Dariya Dashutina leads the veterans with six victories, and the duo of Carolina Masó and Alicia Porte have combined for another six in singles and a team-best four doubles wins.
As a team, the Lady Cards have a 5-11 record and a 2-5 Southland mark. The SHSU match could prove critical if LU is to make the Southland Tournament as the team is currently a game out of the eighth and final spot. The Bearkats are 1-5 in league play and are entering the Thursday with a 3-8 overall mark.
First serve at Thompson Family Tennis Center is set for 2 p.m.
