BEAUMONT, Texas -
Lamar University junior Carolina Salas was named the Southland Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week the conference announced Tuesday.
Salas went 6-0 last week, helping Lamar move to 11-8 on the year and 6-3 in conference play. The Monterrey, Mexico (Prepatoria No. 7), native defeated Olga Bazhanova of Northwestern State, Simona Horsikyan of Central Arkansas and Mariana Rong of Arkansas State in singles, improving her season record to 14-5 at the No. 1 position. Salas and teammate Alicia Porte are now 8-4 in doubles play, teaming up this week to take wins against Northwestern State, Central Arkansas and Arkansas State.
Salas is in her first season with the Lady Cardinals after transferring to Lamar from Detroit Mercy.
The Lady Cardinals return to action at 11 a.m. Saturday with a Southland Conference match at UTSA.
