BEAUMONT - Hanna Elfving and Carolina Masó will look to impress among some of the best talent in the region this weekend as the duo sets out for Ft. Worth to compete in the ITA Texas Regional on the campus of TCU.
Elfving, a freshman out of Sweden, will be making her first trip to the annual event after participating in the Islanders Open and Northwestern State Invitational earlier this year. Prior to joining the program, Elfving was a very accomplished player in her native country, picking up over 150 top three finishes in national events.
Masó, a junior, is coming off an impressive spring season a year ago, going 8-5 at No. 2 singles. In last year's regional event, the Mexico native picked up a straight sets victory over Marie LeBlond of UTEP before bowing out in similar fashion to North Texas' Valentina Starkova.
In doubles, Masó teamed up with Alicia Porte to advance to the Round of 16, where they ultimately fell victim to Aeriel Ellis and Noel Scott of the University of Texas.
The first day of the ITA Texas Regional is set to begin with doubles play at 8 a.m. on Thursday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
