BEAUMONT – Six Lamar women’s tennis players are set to make the short trek to Houston as the Lady Cardinals will close out the fall season at the Cougar Classic at John E. Hoff Courts on the campus of the University of Houston.
Lamar is one of 12 schools lined up to compete in the event, including ranked foes in No. 18 Texas Tech, No. 22 Rice and No. 52 Arkansas. Conference foes Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin are also slated to participate.
All three of the Lady Cards returners are scheduled to compete. Senior Alicia Porte and Dariya Dashutina will be looking to build on their showing at Northwestern State while junior Carolina Masó is coming off the ITA Texas Regional earlier this month.
Hanna Elfving, one of three freshmen making the trip this weekend, also competed at the ITA Regional. Anna Spengler and Katya Lapayeva will also be looking to close out their first fall season in style after the tournament at NSU.
The Cougar Classic is scheduled to begin on Friday morning and run through Sunday.
