BEAUMONT – After contending for Southland title last season, the Lamar women’s tennis program will look to do the same this time around as head coach David Wong announced the 2014 spring schedule.
The Lady Cardinals will open the season with a trip to nearby Rice on January 18 before returning home to take on Jackson State at Thompson Family Tennis Center. LU hasn’t played in the facility since midway through last season, and it has been a fortress for the program over the years as an opponent has not walked out with a victory since March 2012.
Following the Jackson State match, the Lady Cards will head out for a Valentine’s Day road swing, taking on New Mexico State, Northern Arizona and UTEP before returning home for a match against Louisiana Tech on February 22.
After a two-weak break, LU is set to open conference season with matches against New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana on March 8 and 9. The Southland schedule will continue a week later with trips to Nicholls and McNeese State.
Thompson Family Tennis Center will host four matches over an eight-day span, beginning on March 22 with a nonconference showdown with Prairie View A&M. UAB will also make the trek to Beaumont on March 26, and conference battles will take place on March 23 and 29 against Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas, respectively.
After a three-match road trip for meetings with UTSA, Incarnate Word and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the Lady Cards will close out the home season against Abilene Christian and Oral Roberts on April 13 and 15.
The last weekend of the season will be played at Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin before heading out to Corpus Christi for the Southland Championships, which is scheduled to begin on April 24.
