NACOGDOCHES - Sophomore Andrea Martinez was a perfect 3-0 over the weekend, leading the Lamar women's tennis team to an impressive performance at the Stephen F. Austin Invitational held at the SFA Tennis Courts.

Martinez, a native of Durango, Mexico, rolled through the flight `B' singles division with a pair of straight set victories on Saturday and a comeback win on Sunday. Martinez topped Laura Harrison of SFA, 6-1, 6-1, and then took care of Christine Majchowicz, 6-1, 6-0. On Sunday, she overcame a 5-7 first-set loss to Louisiana Tech's Sahara Uriante by winning the second set, 7-5, and followed with a 10-7 superset win.

Senior Hayley Bakker also posted an impressive day one with straight set wins over SFA's Lauren Nowicki (6-1, 6-2) and Northeastern Oklahoma's Berit Itschert, 7-5, 6-2. Bakker lost to Tech's Holly Ready on Sunday, 7-5 and 6-2.

Martinez and Bakker also paired for a pair of doubles victories during the two-day tourney. The LU tandem beat SFA's Harrison and Scott on Saturday and followed with an 8-2 win over LT's pairing of Ready and Duque.

Mansfield native Kendall Gibbs picked up a pair of singles victories in flight `E', with wins over Katie Westbrook of Louisiana Tech (6-2, 6-1) and Heather Kelley of Centenary College (6-0, 6-2). Gibbs fell to Ashley Johnson of SFA, 3-6, 7-5, 10-6, in her other singles match.

Lamar newcomers Julie Paciotti and Marine LeRoy came up short in all three of their respective singles matches, but Paciotti paired with NEO's Majchrowicz and Del Campo to win two flight `D' doubles matches. Paciotti and Majchrowicz won 8-3 over SFA's Voss and Cline, before she joined Del Campo on Sunday for a second 8-3 win over the SFA duo.

Gibbs and LeRoy joined forces in doubles action, but dropped both their matches. The Louisiana Tech team of Kelley and Westbrook dealt the Lady Cardinal pair an 8-4 loss on Saturday, and SFA's Langston and Johnson posted an 8-1 win over Gibbs and LeRoy on Sunday.

The Lady Cardinals will enjoy two weeks off before returning to action on Oct. 23-25 in Fort Worth for the ITA Regionals.
