BATON ROUGE - The Lamar men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2006 indoor season with several good performances at the LSU Purple Tiger Indoor Meet at the LSU Field House in Baton Rouge, La. over the weekend.

Sophomore Clerc Koenck turned in the only individual win for Lamar, winning the women's 1 mile race in a time of in a time of 5:09.15. Senior Jackie John placed fourth in the event for the Lady Cardinals in 5:21.57.

In the 3,000 meter run Lamar had four runners finish in the top 11, with Renee Graham leading the way with a second place finish in a time of 10:06.23. Amanda King and Stacey Monteau followed in fourth and fifth place respectively, finishing in 10:16.11 and 10:33.04. Natasha Williams finished in 11th place in 11:01.48.

The Lady Cardinals placed second in the 4X400 meter relay as Adrianne Johnson, Toni Sylvester, Amber Prather and Chinelo Nwobu posted a time if 3:53.78. Kayla LeBlanc also had a solid outing, finishing fourth in the 400 meter run, in 1:01.99, while Jessika Johnson and Tiffany Brumley finished in 10th and 11th place in the 60 meter hurdles in 9.18 and 9.28 seconds respectively. Adrianne Johnson finished the 60 meter hurdles in 11.26 seconds. Prather also competed in the 800, finishing in 2:21.69, good for third place.

Rosalyn Capps and Porshe Williams competed in the 60 meter dash, finishing in 8.01 and 8.11 seconds respectively. Nwobu and Sylvester also ran the 200 meter dash, placing 12th and 13th with times of 26.04 and 26.07 respectively.



Carista Ward competed in the shot put and the weight throw finishing in 10th and 12th place in the respective events. In the shot put, Ward posted a throw of 11.59 meters, and in the weight throw she threw a 12.40 meter throw. Candice Sewell placed seventh in the pole vault, with a vault of 3.05 meters.

On the men's side, Danny Shaw had the best finish for a Lamar runner, finishing in third place in the 3,000 meter run in a time of 8:47.58. Austin Turnbull also ran the 3,000, finishing in 9:25.22, good for 11th place. Michael Gauthier ran a 7.09 in the 60 meter dash prelims, but did not compete in the finals after qualifying. Shay Williams and Chad Coleman also ran the 60 meter dash, both finishing in 7.45 seconds.

Ewan Simpson took fourth place in the men's one mile race, finishing in 4:32.46, while the Lamar men took fourth place in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Phillip Thornton, Damien Broomes, Chris Sams and Johnny Lennon finished in 3:23.43.

Thornton finished in eighth place in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.19, Broomes posted a 23.41 for 12th place and Shay Williams finished in 16th place with a time of 23.73.
