FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With a heavier schedule set for Saturday, Friday’s first day at the Tyson Invitational featured just two Cardinal athletes as Beatrice Douglas competed in the long jump and Ashley Idunoba ran in the preliminary heats for the 60-meter dash.
“Ashley was just .03 off her personal record in the 60,” LU assistant Jake Cohen said. “She did really well, and it was a good warm-up for her main race tomorrow, which is the 200.”
Idunoba’s time of 7.68 seconds placed her 43rd in the 60-meter dash field.
Douglas, who currently holds the third-best mark in the Southland Conference in the long jump, came up short of that on Friday, putting up a distance of 17 feet, 9.75 inches to finish the event in 26th place.
Cardinal athletes Nick Fyffe and Johnathan Reece will join Idunoba in Tyson competition on Saturday, with Fyffe competing in the triple jump and Reece in the high jump. The trio of Matt Johnsen, Sam Stabler and Joe Wade will also be representing Lamar on the track on Saturday, participating in the 3,000 meter race at the Husky Invitational in Seattle, Wash.
