Koenck Named SLC Track Runner of the Week

BEAUMONT - Lamar University senior Clerc Koenck started the 2008 indoor track season with a record setting performance which helped her earn Southland Conference athlete of the week honors.

Koenck won the women's 3,000 meter run in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:33.45, 23 seconds ahead of the second place finisher and teammate Renee Graham at the Houston Indoor Opener on Saturday. She shattered her own school record, a 9:45.99 performance set last season, by 12 seconds.

This is the fifth time in her career that Koenck has garnered athlete of the week honors and the second of the 2007-08 school year. She was named cross country athlete of the week on October 16 after and impressive showing at Pre-Nationals and earned two awards during the 2007 track season. Overall she has collected three track and two cross country athlete of the week awards.

Koenck and the rest of the Lamar University track team will be back on the track on Friday when they run at the run at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational at the at the Yeoman Field House at the University of Houston.
