Track teams head to Birmingham Invitational

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University men's and women's indoor track teams head to Birmingham, Ala., for the Birmingham Invitational set for Wednesday and Thursday at the Birmingham Crossplex. Twenty-four schools will compete at the two-day event hosted by Alabama-Birmingham, Samford and Birmingham-Southern. The Lamar men and women will each compete in 12 events. The men's events Lamar will compete in are: 200 meters (Jamal Nash); 400 meters (Jonathan Edwards); 800 meters (Aaron Malek, Chris Smith, Josh Raglon); mile run (Joe Wade, Chris Jones, Alex De La Garza); 3,000 meters (Matt Johnsen, Anthony Pequeno, Sam Stabler); 5,000 meters (Ryan Creech); 60-meter high hurdles (Corey Atkins, Nash, Wesley Williams); pole vault (Jared Parker); long jump (Michael Lester, Andy Fontenot); triple jump (Lester). Lamar will field teams in the 4x400 relay and 4,000-meter distance medley as well. The women's events Lamar will compete in are:
60 meters (Ashley Idunoba, Shakevia Fleeks, Carissa Hill); 200 meters (Idunoba, Fleeks, Cofer); 400 meters (Elzbieta Gawron, Carmen Gedling, Saschelle Slaughter); 800 meters (Tessa Denis, Katrine Vaesel); mile run (Becky Gough, Samantha Walkow); 3,000 meters Taylor Cloy, Claire Miles); pole vault (Leslie Beard, Shelby Johnston); long jump (Erin Brown, Hill); triple jump (Brown, Hill); pentathlon (Beatrice Douglas).
The Lamar women will also compete in the 4x400 relay and the 4,000-meter distance medley. The meet starts at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the multi-events followed by the seeded 5,000-meter run. Competition resumes Thursday with the unseeded 5,000 meters and concludes at 9 p.m. with the men's 4x400 meter relay. LAMAR |
