Koenck Shatters SLC Mile Run Record

Feb. 16, 2008

AMES, Iowa - Lamar University senior Clerc Koenck continued her impressive run through the 2008 indoor track season, crushing the Southland Conference record in the mile run and winning the event at the ISU Invitational in Ames, Iowa.

Koenck, an Anacoco, La. native, who had already set a new conference record in the mile earlier in the year, ran to a 4:41.91 finish to win the event on Saturday afternoon. She edged out Angela Bizzarri of Illinois who came in second place in a time 4:41.98.

Koenck's previous best performance was 4:47.77 which she ran at the Houston Invitational. That time was almost one second better than the prior record of 4:48.70 run by Ruth Waller of McNeese State in 2004. She now holds the SLC record by more than six seconds over any other runner.

Koenck and the rest of the Cardinals track team will be back on the track on February 22nd and 23rd when they run in the Southland Conference championships at the Yeoman Field House at the University of Houston.
