BEAUMONT - The Lamar University track team heads to Houston for the Southland Conference Indoor Championship, held at the Yeoman Field House on the campus of the University of Houston on Friday and Saturday.

The Cardinals head to the conference meet with high expectations, as they have showed continued improvement as the season has progressed.

On the women's side, the Lady Cards have been led by a strong contingent of distance runners who have set school records and posted top finishes this spring. The sprinters have also been making noise this spring, as they have continued to post faster times as the season has progressed.

On the men's side, Michael Gauthier heads into the meet on the heels of his best performance in the 60-meter dash which earned him athlete of the week honors. The sophomore has the fifth fastest time in the SLC in the 60 this season. Danny Shaw and Ewan Simpson have also been solid performers for the Cardinals in several of the distance races.

The Conference Championship meet will begin Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. with the weight throw, Running preliminary events are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. with the last race on Friday slated for 8:40 p.m., and the meet will conclude Saturday afternoon with the running of the men's 1,600 meter relay.
