Lamar Opens 2006 Outdoor Track Season with Solid Performances at York Relays
March 11, 2006 HUNTSVILLE - Lamar University had two male and two female event winners as the Cardinals opened the 2006 outdoor track season at the York Relays Friday evening hosted by Sam Houston State at Bowers Stadium. Junior Amanda King won the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:38.85. Renee Graham placed second in a time of 4:53.81 and Amber Prather was third in 5:04.54 as the Lady Cardinals claimed the top three spots in the event. Sophomore Clerc Koenck finished second in the 3,000-meters with a 10:16.78 clocking. Katie Noss of Dallas Baptist won the event in a time of 10:05.87. Senior Natasha Williams was fourth in 10:38.31 and Anna Daws was sixth at 11:51.03. Rosalyn Capps and Chinelo Nwobu finished fourth and fifth in the 100 meter dash. Capps crossed the line in a time of 12.20 in Heat 2 and Nwobu also ran a 12.20 in Heat 3. Porsche Williams' time of 12.61 in Heat 2 was good for ninth. Quantinette Fields of Sam Houston ran a 11.64 in Heat 1 to place first in the event. Nwobu placed third in the 200 meters in a time of 24.87 in Heat 1. Capps was ninth with a time of 25.88 in Heat 2. Fields also posted the top time in the 200 meters with a 24.22 clocking in Heat 1. Brittany Pollard and Kayla LeBlanc finished ninth and 10th in the 400 meters with times of 58.47 and 59.48, respectively. Tiffany Brumley placed seventh in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.34 in Heat 2 and Kim Ballenger was ninth with a 16.45 in Heat 2. Alexandra Mayfield placed third in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.65 and Adrianne Johnson was fifth with a time of 1:05.71. Tiana Lee of Sam Houston won the event with a 1:03.54. Christa Ward won the discus with a throw of 140-09. Sonia Chalk placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 4-11. Audrey Azu of Stephen F. Austin won the event with a jump of 5-07. On the men's side, Michael Gautier posted the best 100-meter time with a 10.72 clocking in Heat 1. Shay Williams was fourth with a time of 11.08 in Heat 2. Gauthier was sixth in the 200-meters with a time of 22.31 in Heat 3 and Williams was 10th with a 22.55 in Heat 2. D.D. Terry of Sam Houston posted the top time with a 21.71 in Heat 1. Danny Shaw won the 1,500-meters with a 4:02.39 clocking and teammate Ewan Simpson was second with a time of 4:06.91. Hamish Meacheam was sixth at 4:12.31. Ben McBride was fourth in the 3,000-meters with a time of 9:11.51 and Austin Turnbull was ninth at 9:39.94. Ely Umanzor of Sam Houston had the best collegiate time at 8.52.36. Chris Sams was sixth in the 400-meters with a 49.99 in Heat 3. Alfred Robinson of Southwestern Christian turned in the best time with a 47.44 in Heat 1. Stephen Boone placed seventh in the 400-meter hurdles with a 57.70 clocking. Chad Coleman was third in the triple jump with a leap of 43-05.25.
