The Lamar University track teams head to Houston for the 24th Annual Rice Bayou Classic, held at the Rice University Track Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
The Bayou Classic will kick off on Friday at 6:30 p.m. with the field events and 7:40 p.m. for the running events. Saturday's running events will begin at noon and the final race is slated for 5:10 p.m. Field events will begin at 9 a.m. and end with the triple jump at 3:00 p.m.
On the women's side, the Lady Cards have been led by Amanda King who ranks first in the Southland Conference for her outstanding 4:38.85 performance in the 1,500 meter run at the York Relays. Clerc Koenck is also among the top runners in the 1,500 this season, ranking third in the SLC with a time of 4:44.20, while Renee Graham has posted a 4:53.13, which is ninth best in the conference.
Also running strong for LU so far this season are Chinelo Nwobu and Toni Sylvester who rank second and fourth in the SLC in the 400m dash with times of 55.66 and 56.81 respectively.
On the men's side, Michael Gauthier heads into the Bayou Classic with the fourth best 100 meter dash time in the Southland Conference after a strong finish at the UTSA Relays with a 10.64. Danny Shaw and Damien Broomes have also been strong competitors for the Cardinals so far, with Shaw turning in the fourth fastest time in the 1,500 at 3:56.94, while Broomes is sixth in the SLC with a 49.48 performance in the 400 at the UTSA Relays.
