King Named SLC Track Athlete of the Week
April 3, 2007 BEAUMONT - After winning the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Bayou Classics hosted by Rice University, in record setting fashion, senior Amanda King was named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week. King, a senior from Tauranga, New Zealand, ran a regional qualifying time of 10:34.40, besting her own meet record of 10:48.02, which she set last year. The performance was just three seconds off her personal best and the Southland Conference record of 10:31.46, which she ran at the SLC Championships last year. King's performance is the fastest 3,000 meter steeplechase run by a Southland Conference athlete this season by 27.51 seconds. In addition to topping the SLC list, her time currently ranks eighth in the NCAA. King and the rest of the Lamar University track and field team will be back in action this week, when they travel to the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas beginning on Thursday.
