King Named Aeropostale Athlete of the Week after Record Setting Weekend

BEAUMONT, Texas - Lamar University Junior distance runner Amanda King was named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after her record setting weekend at the Victor Lopez/Rice Bayou Classic, held at the Rice University in Houston

King, a junior from Tauranga, New Zealand, set a new Bayou Classic and Lamar University record in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, posting a regional qualifying time of 10:48.02. She shattered the meet record of 11:06.58, and finished more than 25 seconds ahead of the second place finisher in the race. Her time is the fastest in the SLC this season by more than 40 seconds.

So far this season, King has also run the fastest 1500 meter time in the Southland Conference with a 4:38.85 and the eighth fastest 800 time, running a 2:19.63.
