BEAUMONT – After taking home nine individual titles at the Sam Houston State Quad Meet a week ago, the Lamar men’s and women’s track teams will look to keep things rolling at another conference meet this weekend, making the short trek to Lake Charles to participate at the McNeese Spring Time Classic.

Fresh off being named Southland Field Athlete of the Week, Beatrice Douglas will look to lead a talented Lamar jumps group at the meet. Douglas, who ranks as the second-best long jumper in school history, will participate in both the long jump and high jump.

Fellow Lady Cardinals Carissa Hill and Erin Brown will join her in the long jump. Brown will also compete in the triple jump.

Not to be outdone, the men’s group should also prove to be formidable as Southland Indoor Freshman of the Year Johnathon Reece will make his outdoor debut in the high jump, joining Austin Powell. Nick Fyffe will participate in both the long jump and the triple jump, an event he won a week ago, and Robert Badillo is also scheduled to compete in the triple jump as well.

Other field athletes slated to perform include pole vaulters Leslie Beard, Jared Parker and Cody Williams as well as thrower Denisha Nichols.

Ashley Idunoba, winner in the 200 at SHSU and two-time Southland champ in the race, will lead the Lamar sprinters. Other sprinters competing will be Shakevia Fleeks, Elzbieta Gawron, Chasity Peters, Sarah Shim, Saschelle Slaughter and Sydney Wandix.

Zach Hicks will look to lead the men’s sprinters, and he’ll be joined by Treyvon Davis, Jonathan Edwards, Trey Finnex, Ronnie Whitty.

The trio of TaMar Hicks, Idara Effiong and Kim Campbell will run in the 800, and both Claire Miles and Ryan Kelly are slated to race in the mile.

Miles plans to compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as well.

Hurdlers Wesley Williams and Le’Trey Burton will round out the scheduled competitors for Lamar.
