BEAUMONT, Texas -
The Lamar University men's and women's track teams will compete at two meets this weekend. Lamar will be at the Southeastern Lion Invitational in Hammond, La., on Friday and at Rice University's J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet in Houston on Saturday.
The Lamar women will compete in nine events at Southeastern Louisiana on Friday, led by four runners (Elzbieta Gawron, Amanda Mooney, Saschelle Slaughter and Wilika Williams) in the 400-meter dash. The Lady Cardinals will also have entrants in the 200 meters, the 800 meters, pole vault, long jump, triple jump discus, 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay.
The Lamar men are scheduled to compete in eight events at Southeastern Louisiana, with five runners (Idara Effiong, Aaron Malek, Josh Raglon, Ronnie Whitty and Mark Woodley) competing in the 800 meters. Lamar will also be represented in the 400 meters, the 110-meter high hurdles, the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, the pole vault, the long jump, the triple jump and the 4x400 relay.
Saturday, the Lamar women will compete in five events at Rice, with three runners (Becky Gough, Katrine Vaesel and Samantha Walkow) in the 1,500 meters and three runners (Nora-Beth Saunders, Daisy Cantu and Angela LaBorde) in the 5,000 meters. The Lady Cardinals will also field competitors in the 100 meters, the long jump and the triple jump.
The Lamar men are scheduled to compete in six events at rice, highlighted by having a strong quartet in the 1,500 meters. In that race, Lamar will be represented by all-conference candidates Tom Wade
and Joe Wade
, Sam Stabler
, who was named the outstanding runner at the Northwestern State Invitational, and Chris Jones
. The Cardinals will also compete in the 800 meters, the 110-meter high hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump.
Friday's action at Southeastern Louisiana gets under way at 12:30 p.m., while Saturday's competition at Rice stats at 6 p.m.
