BEAUMONT - Lamar University Senior sprinter Chinelo Nwobu was named the Aeropostale Southland Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week after her record setting performances at the Ty Terrell Relays last Thursday.

Nwobu, a senior from Eisenhower High School in Houston, ran the fastest 400 in the SLC this season, clocking a 53.77 at the Ty Terrell Relays last Thursday afternoon. The 53.77 is the 12th fastest time in the Midwest Region, and ties her own school record set at the 2005 SLC outdoor championship.

In addition to her individual success, Nwobu also ran the anchor leg of the mile relay, which set a new meet record and the second fastest time in Lamar history with a 3:43.04. Nwobu teamed with Brittany Pollard, Toni Sylvester and Kayla LaBlanc for the record breaking performance, which is also a new Ty Terrell Stadium record. She also joined Rosalyn Capps, Johnson and Sylvester to post the fastest 4 x 100 meter relay time of the year for Lamar, running a 46.45.
