Lady Cards Blow Past Birmingham Southern 3-0

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lamar University volleyball team finished the Holiday Inn Express Challenge, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, with a 3-0 win over Birmingham Southern.

In game one, Buchi Okoh dominated the Panthers, knocking down seven kills and posting five blocks as the Lady Cardinals held off a late BSC run to win 30-27.

Game two saw the Lady Cards take complete control, as they blew past the Panthers for a 30-11 win. Lamar was led by Lauren Rush and Okoh, who posted five and four kills respectively.

In game three the Lady Cards continued to build on their momentum from game two. Okoh continued her dominant play, blasting another seven kills to lead LU to a 30-20 win to close out the match.

For the match, Okoh finished with 18 kills and eight blocks while hitting .571. Ashley Todd passed out 41 assists, while the defensive effort was anchored by Alex Brink and Meagan Adams who collected 15 and 12 digs respectively.

Also turning in strong performances for LU was Lauren Rush who knocked down nine kills with a .350 hitting percentage and LaKreshia Harmon who had six kills with a .267 hitting percentage.

The Lady Cardinals improved their record to 3-6 with the win, while BSC fell to 1-7 on the season. Lamar will be in action again next Friday in South Dakota, when they take on New Mexico State and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
