LU led 6-4 in the second before yielding a 9-7 advantage to SHSU. The set had five ties and two lead changes before the Bearkats came away with a 26-24 win. The Lady Cardinals fought back from a 22-16 hole to tie it at 23-23 and 24-24, but were unable to capitalize before dropping the set 26-24.

Despite not leading in the final set, Lamar did keep the Bearkats within striking distance but were unable to get any closer that two points down on four occasions, with the last coming at 24-22 before a hitting error ended the match.
