The Lamar University volleyball team was handed their first loss in Southland Conference play Saturday afternoon, falling to Texas State 3-1 at Strahan Coliseum.
The Lady Cardinals, 4-8 overall and 2-1 in SLC play, could not slow down the offensive attack of Texas State who improved to 10-11 overall and 3-1 in SLC play with the win. The Bobcats posted a .351 hitting percentage for the match, while LU hit .213.
Texas State claimed the first two sets 25-21 and 25-20 to take a 2-0 lead in the match before LU was able to grab a win. The Lady Cardinals won the second set 27-25 behind the play of Kaci Brewer who knocked down five kills with a .500 hitting percentage.
In the fourth set the Bobcats finished off the match with a 25-13, hitting a match-high .415 as a team. Lamar was unable to match the play of Texas State in the final set, hitting just .128 as a team.
Meagan Adams led the way for Lamar with her second straight double-double, registering 12 kills and 11 digs. Brewer also finished with double digit kills with 12, while the defense was led by Genevieve Gladle and Bailey Smith who had 16 digs and 12 digs respectively. Ashley Todd led all players in the match with 41 assists.
The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Friday night at 7:00 when they host the UTSA Roadrunners at McDonald Gym.
