Nov. 14, 2009
CONWAY, Ark. -- Lamar was unable to dethrone Central Arkansas and following Saturday's 3-0 loss at the Prince Center will enter the Southland Conference Tournament with a 14-13 overall record and a 9-7 league mark.
Lamar, the defending tournament champion, will face No. 5 seed UT Arlington on Friday at the UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m..
"We are a pretty decent match-up but have to take care of the routine plays if we want to advance," LU head coach Justin Gibert said. "We beat them in three at our place but lost in four up there so it should be an interesting match. You never know what will happen in the four-five matches."
The LU-UTA winner will play the winner of the Texas State-Southeastern La. contest in the semifinals at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, with the championship set for Sunday at 2 p.ma.
For the match, UCA outhit Lamar .245 to .198 and held a 42-30 kills advantage. Lamar did pose a big presence at the net with eight blocks, compared to three for UCA.
Lamar was paced by Lauren Holdorff, who finished with 11 kills, along with Adrianne Meengs' 21 assists and 10 digs as she notched her team-leading ninth double-double of the season, to go along with her three triple-doubles.
Jessica Hays led UCA with a season-high 18 kills on .419 hitting to go with two aces and seven digs. Williams and Chloe Smith had seven kills each. Robyn Smith recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 33 assists and 12 digs.
"They hit some balls right at us and we made some mistakes," Gibert added. "UCA played a solid game and we didn't make the defensive plays down the stretch to win the match."
UCA (27-3, 16-0 SLC) won the contest with set scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 25-19. Overall, the match had 15 ties and nine lead changes. |
