NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 2004 season ended on a sour note for the Lamar volleyball on Saturday night, as the Lady Cardinals dropped a 3-0 Southland Conference match to Stephen F. Austin at William Johnson Coliseum by scores of 30-18, 30-20 and 30-25.

Lamar concluded the season with a 9-23 overall record and a 2-18 SLC mark. SFA won its 17th straight match and finished the regular season with a 25-5 overall record and a 17-3 league record. The win also clinched the Ladyjacks at least a share of the SLC regular season title.

Buchi Okoh, a sophomore from Houston, led Lamar with 10 kills and freshman Alyssa Parks posted a match-high 14 digs. Senior Ashley Hallagin concluded her collegiate career with 29 assists and nine digs.

The Lady Cardinals struggled offensively in the first two games, while SFA committed only five hitting errors en route to a 2-0 lead in the match. In the third game the LU offense awoke and hammered 17 team kills with a .293 hitting percentage, but it was not enough as the Ladyjacks countered with 22 kills and a .500 hitting percentage to close out the match.

Lamar edged SFA in digs (50-42), but the Ladyjacks finished with advantages in every other statistical category.

Freshman Molli Abel wrapped up her rookie season one kill shy of a double-double, finishing with nine kills and 10 digs. Lamar's Alisa Jackson, a junior from Burleson, recorded a .333 hitting percentage with eight kills on 21 attacks and only one error. She added five digs, one assist, one service ace and one block.

SFA was led by Brittany Burton who pounded 13 kills, recorded a .407 hitting percentage and led all players with a match-high six blocks. Laura Cramer added a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs.

The Lady Cardinals season has concluded, but Lamar is still scheduled to host the 2004 Southland Conference Tournament on Nov. 19-21. SFA will be among the league's top six teams who will compete for the tournament title and an NCAA automatic berth at the Montagne Center, beginning at 4:30 p.m. on Thurs., Nov. 19.
