BEAUMONT, Texas -
The Lamar University volleyball program is excited to announce their alumni weekend get together on Friday and Saturday August 21-22.
The event has been planned as a way to get the players who helped build the program into what it is today, back on campus and involved with the program.
"I am very excited about having the first ever alumni weekend and alumni match to kick off the 2009 season," head coach Justin Gibert said. "Lamar Volleyball has such a long and successful tradition and has so many athletes that made a lasting impact on this university. It is therefore only fitting that we honor their contribution with an opportunity to come back to the university and be a part of something special this year. In addition, I am very proud and feel equally honored to be the coach at a time when so many former volleyball players have expressed an excitement to continually be a part of the program in which they participated and help mature to a championship level."
On Friday night at 7 p.m. McDonald Gym will be open for alumni to shake off their rust before Saturday's festivities. On Saturday the gym will be available for serve and pass at 9 a.m. and a luncheon at Cheddars will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The alumni match will begin at 4 p.m. as the current Cardinals players will face off against the former players brave enough to hit the court. The match will consist of four to five games regardless of the outcome.
