Lamar Volleyball Drops Two in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. - The Lamar University dropped a pair of matches at the Best Western Shocker Volleyball Classic at Charles Koch Arena, falling to Coastal Carolina 3-2 and Cal State Bakersfield 3-1. In the first match of the day the lady Cardinals battled Coastal Carolina in a close five game loss. Lamar jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 win but the Chanticleers rebounded to grab game two 25-23. With the match tied at one game apiece Lamar rolled to a 25-17 win to take a 2-1 lead. Trailing 2-1, the Lady Cards could not put away Coastal, as the Chanticleers rallied for another 25-23 win to tie the match a two. After squeaking out two wins, Coastal Carolina grabbed a four point win 15-11 to claim the match. Genevieve Gladle and Courtney Trevino led the offense for Lamar knocking down 13 and 10 kills apiece while Ashley Todd passed out 34 assists. The Lamar defense was led by Andrea Hamilton who picked up 22 digs. Against Cal State Bakersfield Lamar grabbed game one 30-28, but Bakersfield rallied back to win the next three games 25-20, 25-18, 25-21. The Lamar offense was again led by Gladle who registered a double-double with 11 kills and 11 digs while Todd passed out 32 assists. Hamilton led the LU defense with 21 digs. The Lady Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Idaho State at 4:30 p.m.
