Lady Cardinals Volleyball Opens SLC Play on the Road

BEAUMONT - With four tournaments and a plus 500 record under their belts, the Lamar University Lady Cardinals volleyball team is ready to jump into the Southland Conference schedule, starting with a weekend road trip to Nicholls State and Southeastern Louisiana.

The Lady Cards open the trip with a Friday night showdown with Nicholls State at 7:00 in Thibodaux, La., and complete the journey with a 2 p.m. match against the Lady Lions on Saturday.

The Lady Cardinals enter the weekend with an 8-7 season record, having won their last four matches. Lamar posted victories over Denver, Tennessee Chattanooga, Jackson State and UC-Riverside during their four match winning streak.

The Lamar offense is led by Molli Abel's 3.31 kills per game while the senior is posting 1.18 blocks per game. Kaci Brewer has also been a mainstay in the LU offense posting 3.22 kills per game, while Adrianne Meengs has passed out 11 assists per game. Lamar's defense is anchored by Andrea Hamilton, who is averaging 4.55 digs per game.

The Lady Colonels enter the match with a 6-10 record, also having won four straight. Nicholls is led by Kendra Halverson and Rachel Spreen who are averaging 3.29 and 3.25 kills per game respectively. Amy Whithead has passed out 10.13 assists per game and the Lady Colonel defense has been anchored by Enjoli Ford who is averaging 5.03 digs per game.

After the weekend trip through Louisiana, the Lady Cardinal will take their longest conference trip of the season when they travel to Conway Arkansas and Natchitoches, La. to take on Central Arkansas and Northwestern State next Friday and Saturday.
