BEAUMONT - After splitting a pair of Southland Conference matches this weekend, the Lamar volleyball team will set out for New Orleans on Tuesday for a non-conference meeting with Tulane.
The Lady Cards (4-12) have won two of the last three matches, and are coming off a five-set loss to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. A big reason for the Red and White resurgence over the past few matches has been the return of senior outside hitter Sierra Whittaker, who is entering Tuesday's encounter just 38 kills shy of 1,000 for her career. The Houston native leads LU in kills per set at 3.51.
Middle blocker Cortney Moore has also been a strong offensive player for LU, averaging 2.41 kills per frame, and Madi Martin has led the way on the right side with 1.56 per set.
Sara Landis and Nicole Parish have supplied at least a kill per set, and setter Alexa Johnson is coming off 95 assists this past weekend, upping her average to 8.29 per set.
Defensively, Chelsea Grant has been a force at the net with 1.09 blocks per set, and the trio of Megan Schwartz, Erika Rojas and Molly Duge have held down the back row with a combined 8.73 digs per set.
Tulane (14-2) will have revenge in mind on Tuesday night after dropping a five-set haertbreaker to the Lady Cards last season at McDonald Gym. Whittaker was a force to be reckoned with in the meeting as she racked up 17 kills at an impressive .438 clip.
First serve is set for 7 p.m.
