Lamar Volleyball Heads to Arlington to Take On Mavs

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Lamar University volleyball team returns to the road on Thursday, taking on the UT Arlington Mavericks at 7 p.m. at Texas Hall. The Lady Cardinals returned to the court on Saturday, rolling to a 3-1 win over Sam Houston State in their Southland Conference opener. Shalayne Blythe led the way for LU with 13 kills with a .385 hitting percentage and five blocks while Lauren Holdorff added 11 kills with a .409 hitting percentage and four blocks. For the year Lamar, 3-7 overall and 1-0 in SLC play, has been led by Genevieve Gladle's 2.30 kills per set while Blythe is averaging 2.15 kills per set. Ashley Todd has handled the setting duties for the Lady Cards, passing out 8.90 assists per set while the LU defense is led by Andrea Hamilton and Gladle who are averaging 3.57 and 3.19 digs per set respectively. The Mavericks are led by Bianca Sauls and Ally Wade who are averaging 2.43 and 2.41 kills per set while Reagan Daniel is averaging eight assists per set. The Arlington defense is led by Alicia Shaffer and Amanda Aguilera who are averaging 2.95 and 2.19 digs per set respectively. Thursday's match will be 74th meeting between Lamar and UTA with the Mavericks leading the all-time series 48-23-2. Lamar won the last match-up, 3-0, at McDonald Gym on Oct. 20, 2007 and has won three of the last four meetings. After their match against the Mavericks the Lady Cardinals will head to San Marcos, Texas where they will take on Texas State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
