Meengs Named SLC Offensive Player of the Week

BEAUMONT - After helping the Lamar University volleyball team to a pair of wins against UT-Pan American and McNeese State last week, setter Adrianne Meengs was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week.

Meengs, a sophomore from Friendswood, Texas started the week with a dominant performance against the Lady Broncs of UTPA, blasting 13 kills with a .706 hitting percentage while passing out 44 assists. In addition to her double-double Meengs was a force at the net, posting six blocks. In Saturday's match against McNeese she again had a solid outing, passing out 34 assists with six kills and a .400 hitting percentage.

For the week she passed out a total of 78 assists (13 assists per game), knocked down 19 kills (3.17 kills per game), had a hitting percentage of .562 and posted nine blocks to earn the first player of the week award of her career.

She currently ranks third in the SLC with 11.04 assists per game and ranks fifth among Lady Cardinals players in kills with 2.09 per game. In addition to her offensive prowess, she has also been solid defensively ranking fourth on the team in digs at 1.93 digs per game.

Meengs and the Lady Cardinals, who have won 10 straight matches and are 5-0 in SLC play, will be back in action on Friday night a 7:00 when they host the Nicholls State Lady Colonels at McDonald Gym.
