Lamar Volleyball Team Returns Home To Face Nicholls
Oct. 13, 2009
After splitting a pair of road matches last weekend, the Lamar volleyball team returns to Southeast Texas for a midweek contest against Nicholls on Wednesday night at McDonald Gym.
Lamar (9-8, 4-2 Southland) is currently tied for second in the SLC West Division with the midway point of the conference season coming this weekend.
The Lady Cardinals will enter the 7 p.m. contest with the Colonels hitting .216, averaging nearly six service aces per match and 8.1 blocks per outing.
Last week Jayme Bazile, Lauren Holdorff and Wendy Krell all averaged better than 2.2 kills per set, with Bazile and Krell each hitting over .400. Krell had a career day with 14 kills on .619 hitting percentage.
Nicholls (9-10, 3-2 SLC) has won four-consecutive matches - including three against SLC foes. The Colonels' current winning skein represents their longest since claiming a school-record seven in October of 2007.
Nicholls will be going for its tenth win of the season, something it hasn't accomplished since 2004. They finished 9-18 a year ago.
Jennifer Brandt and Manieka Golden lead the Colonel offense with 2.8 kills per set apiece. Nicholls is hitting .234 in league play and .194 overall.
Lamar leads the all-time series with Nicholls 21-6 and has won the last eight meetings, including last season's 3-2 decision in Thibodaux, La. and 3-1 outcome in the opening round of the SLC Tournament.
Ticket are $3 for adults and $2 for youths and seniors, while LU students are admitted free of charge. Free t-shirts will be given to the first 50 LU Crew members in attendance.
