Five Questions With Heather Merfeld

Question 1: Being a redshirt this year, what have you learned to this point and how is it helping you adjust to the college game?

Answer: It is kind of nice because I have an entire year to develop the technical side of the game I need to develop for the future. The game is a lot different because of the speed, and a middle blocker has a lot of responsibility on the court. As far as redshirting goes, it's better to have a whole year of eligibility left as opposed to getting into one or two games

Question 2: You are the only non-Texan on your team. What are some of your favorite things about Texas, and what do you miss the most about Wisconsin?

Answer: I've found out that Texans are very proud and you never mess with Texans. I haven't had the chance to see a whole lot of Texas, but love the accents. The thing I miss the most about Wisconsin is my friends and family, the environment as the cold weather.

Question 3: With your height, did you ever consider any other sports other than volleyball?

Answer: I played basketball though my sophomore year in high school, I ran track and almost played golf. I also used to do dance, but I finally had to focus on sports because I knew sports could take me further.

Question 4: How did you end up here at Lamar University?

Answer: I never had an issue with going out of state. I kind of always wanted to get out of Wisconsin and do my own thing. I really liked Lamar because of coach Gibert and the program. When I visited Lamar I liked the campus and found the whole program really appealing.

Question 5: If you could change places with any teammate of yours, who would it be and why?

Answer: I would trade places with Adrianne Meengs because she holds such a key role in the way we play and is a big factor in how well we do. She touches the ball on every single rally and she has a great personality on the court. She's always encourages everyone and pushes the team to do the best they can.
