BEAUMONT - The Lamar volleyball team will be looking to bounce back from another close loss on Tuesday night as they take a short break from the home schedule at McDonald Gym for a pair of games on the road this weekend.
The Lady Cards will begin with Northwestern State on Thursday evening in Natchitoches, La. LU will be looking to avenge a five-set heartbreaking loss in Beaumont earlier this season.
After dropping the opening set to the Lady Demons, the Lady Cards (9-15, 1-9 Southland) fought back for a pair of tight wins in the second and third frames, but NSU was able to mount a comeback as well, closing out the match with 25-14 and 15-11 victories.
Cortney Moore and Wendy Krell shined in the meeting, combining to hit .304 with 28 kills. Krell was also a presence at the net, adding seven blocks. Megan Schwartz posted 25 digs, and Sierra Whittaker added 22.
The Lady Demons will be entering play with a 6-4 conference record and a 14-8 mark overall.
On Saturday, LU will be looking to pay back another early season loss, this time at SFA. The Lady Cards saw their comeback bid fall short in a 3-1 loss last month. Krell starred in that match as well, hitting .400 with 12 kills, and Whittaker chalked up 15 kills to lead the team.
The Lady Jacks are currently 15-8 this season with a 6-4 mark in SLC play.
